The emergence of ICT has made the communication process dynamic, fast, and reliable across boundaries. On the other hand, Web 2.0 technologies present unprecedented opportunities for students, researchers, and academic staff in higher education to advance knowledge and promote lifelong learning through digital platforms and tools such as ChatGPT, Blogs, RSS, Wikis, Bookmarking sites, instant messaging (IM), and social networking sites like Facebook, and MySpace, etc.
The outbreak of the COVID-19 global pandemic largely affected the business operations of most higher learning institutions not only in Tanzania but also across the world. These institutions have started to deploy different strategies and initiatives to sustain their operations whenever a similar crisis occurs; one typical strategy being a paradigm shift from conventional teaching and learning practices to e-learning to minimize the impact of the pandemic on students and faculty.
This shift calls for libraries and librarians to constantly equip their users with new knowledge and skills to effectively utilize the available online resources as well as the application of ICTs to facilitate research and e-learning in general.
The envisaged training intends to empower librarians, students, faculty, researchers, and any other interested individuals with indispensable knowledge on the application of Web 2.0 Technologies for effective collaboration and engagement with their counterparts in different digital platforms and in a virtual environment. Therefore, this training also seeks to introduce to the participants' research support services and tools for the effective management of research projects as well as the application of web 2.0 technologies in libraries.
The course aims to achieve the following specific objectives:
i. To familiarize the participants with online publishing by using Web 2.0 technologies
ii. To familiarize participants with online reference management tools using Mendeley software
iii. To equip participants with different advanced search techniques through various e-resources databases
