Course Details

The Institute of Finance Management (IFM) has developed a short course in Debt Management and Recovery. This short course provides participants with core understanding on debt management and recovery in variety of aspects relevant to international and local perspective. The course is structured to act as a vehicle for corporates including banks, microfinance and other financial institutions to be able to manage their debt portfolio taking cognisance of the recently COVID-19 pandemic. The course may be valuable to a wide range of personnel in the organization including loan / credit officers, credit managers, relationship managers, risk managers, financial managers. The overall objective of the course is to gain a good understanding of debt management and recovery. The course aims to achieve five specific objectives as follows;

[1] To familiarise the participants with the dimensions of debt management and recovery.

[2] To enable the participants to appreciate the essential features of a legally binding contract.

[3] To familiarise the participants with the legal process in collection of debts

[4] To empower the participants with the knowledge of risk management.

[5] To equip participants with different debt recovery strategies.

Course Contents

[2] Theme Two: Designing of credit management policy

[3] Theme Three: Monitoring and evaluation of loans

[4] Theme Four: Debt collection strategies and methods

The training is useful to loan / credit officers, credit managers, relationship managers, risk managers, financial managers and auditors.
