A message from the Rector.
On the Institute's purpose, its people, and the half-century of service behind it.
Dear students, colleagues, partners and friends of the Institute,
It is my privilege to welcome you to the Institute of Finance Management. Since our founding by an Act of Parliament in 1972, this Institute has held a single purpose: to build the professional capacity that Tanzania's financial system depends on.
This is exactly the kind of collaboration East Africa needs — research that does not sit on a shelf, but shapes the decisions that move our economy.
That purpose has not changed, but the world around it has. Digital finance has redrawn how households save and borrow. Climate risk has entered the balance sheet. Regulation has grown more demanding and more technical. Our answer is the same one it has always been — teach rigorously, research honestly, and put both at the service of the institutions that carry the economy.
To our students: you are joining a community of more than sixty thousand graduates who have gone before you into banks, ministries, regulators and firms across the region. Learn well, and remember what our motto asks of you.
With warm regards,
Prof. Henry Chalu
